Memorial Day brings us
to the threshold of Summer. This season
is always a time for rejoicing in accomplishments of the past year and of
journeys completed. It also holds the
promise of refreshment for the long haul that will continue as well as hopes
for new beginnings. We remember those
who have gone before us and who have offered their lives for the freedoms we
hold dear. We give thanks to all who
have accompanied us along the way.
The Solemnity of the
Most Holy Trinity invites upon us to call to mind the central Mystery of our
Catholic Faith: the God Who Is the Unity of Three Persons in One Divine
Nature. Father, Son and Holy Spirit
relate to us in our humanity through One Love.
We are invited to return that Love and to share the very Life of the
Trinity. This Mystery is central to
everything we experience, whether we realize it or not. When we look at the world around us through
Trinitarian eyes, we begin to see and understand many realities in profound and
wonderful ways. How we relate to God, to
others and to the world around us finds a meaning that is deeper than we could
ever grasp without this awareness.
Jesus Christ has given
us access to God. His Holy Spirit
carries us into the heart of Reality, crying out “Abba” from our hearts. As we begin to live from this “place,” we
find, even in the midst of chaos, the Peace that the world cannot give.
We are blessed to be
the People the Lord has chosen to be His own.
May we live in the Union of Love that is ours, giving Glory to God, the
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and forever.
Amen!
